18AprGreen Weekend on the Key

Go Green

If Green is your thing, there’s plenty going on this weekend on Key Biscayne. With the worldwide celebration of Earth coming up on Monday, our community if offering services and festivities to promote a greener planet.

On Saturday, you can do some spring cleaning and do a good deed by donating your old computers, monitors, cell phones and televisions to the Electronics Recycling Drive at Village Hall. This is part of the Village Goes Green Initiative and you can drive by any time between 8:30am and 1:30pm to unload your goods. For details about which items you can recycle, visit the village’s site.

If you want something more hands-on, stop by the Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup where you and a bunch of volunteers can help keep our bay shiny and blue. Sign up with DERM today for a free T-Shirt. Cleanup starts at 9:00am at either the Beach Club or Crandon Park (meet at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center). Remember to apply the sunscreen and bring your water-proof Crocs since you’ll definitely be getting wet.

If partying and entertainment are more your thing, head out to Crandon Park on Sunday for EarthFest 2008. There’s sure to be tons of food, family-friendly activities and it’s a fun way to support the planet.

Get out there and get Green this weekend!
