16MayThis Weekend: Beware the Toll Traffic

From the village website:

Residents are advised that Miami-Dade County Department of Public Works (PWD) is in the process of replacing the existing seven (7) fiberglass toll booths at the Rickenbacker Toll Plaza with new stainless steel toll booths. The project includes upgrading toll plaza’s electrical service, demolishing existing concrete slabs and constructing a new slab for each toll booth. Unfortunately, we can only replace one booth at a time.  The project will continue until further notice.

PWD will strive to minimize the negative impact on vehicular traffic. Motorists should expect delays on weekends as certain lane(s) may be out of service.

Transponder pass lane locations may shift as toll booth replacement continues. Residents and other pass holders also are reminded that transponder lanes may be converted to transponder/cash accepted lanes during periods of heavy traffic onto the Causeway.

Construction in Zones 1 and 4 of the three-zone sanitary sewer and water pipe replacement project commenced the week of July 9, 2007, in the Holiday Colony area (Zone 4). Weekly progress meetings, at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the 2nd Floor BZP Conference Room, are open to the public.

Installation of replacement water pipes will precede placement of the new sanitary sewer mains and pipes. Affected residents will receive at least two notices of construction in the form of lime green-colored door hangers.

  • The first notice will give approximate dates of excavation and pipe installation in the area, and will be delivered 2-5 days in advance. Residents are advised that the work will temporarily block access to sections of the street or individual driveways.
  • The second notice will give the dates and approximate hours during which water service to a home may be disrupted.
